The TOTY (Toy of the Year) Awards have been handed out for 2017 and the list below is what we have. The winner of the TOTY award was the LEGO Friends Amusement Park Roller Coaster. Pop! from Funko, LLC, which won the People’s Choice award, which is handed out for getting the most votes from consumers. You can see each of the category winners below and some of our insights and changes we would have made.

  • Toy of the Year – LEGO Friends Amusement Park Roller Coaster from LEGO Systems, Inc.
  • People’s Choice – Pop! from Funko, LLC

We are good with the Toy of the Year award, it is one great LEGO Friends playset. The People’s Choice award is set by the consumers so they have spoken with the Pop! Collectibles by Funko. Action Figure Toy of the Year is another one we agree with as the DC Super Hero Girls were HUGE, definitely a great license that is being utilized well. Bunch O Balloons by Zuru was one of our top toy choices and we voted for this as Active/Outdoor Toy of the Year as well. Wow we are actually pretty much in agreement with most of these so far, and Crayola Air Maker Sprayer is another winner, the only one that I might have chosen as well would have been the K’NEX 3-in-1 Classic Amusement Park Building Set by K’NEX Brands, but I think the Crayola product edged it out a bit for me as well. Collectible of the Year, I know I might not be in the majority here, but I really loved Gift ’ems by JAKKS Pacific to win this category. LEGO Friends Amusement Park Roller Coaster also get the Construction Toy of the Year with Meccano Micronoids by Spin Master a close second.

Doll of the year I would have went with Disney Frozen Northern Lights Elsa Doll by JAKKS Pacific over the Barbie Fashionista Doll by Mattel which was the winner. Circuit Maze by ThinkFun Inc. would have been my Game of the Year but the true winner was Yeti in My Spaghetti by PlayMonster! Again I might disagree with the Infant/Preschool Toy of the Year as I am super partial to Go! Go! Smart Friends Enchanted Princess Palace by Vtech, but I think the license pushed the Doc Mcstuffins Toy Hospital Care Cart by Just Play to first place. Innovative Toy of the Year as won by Hatchimals and based on how hard they were to get over the holiday I would fully agree.

License of the Year went to Paw Patrol by Spin Masters Ltd. Lots of good licenses on this list though and it easily could have been Star Wars by Disney Consumer Products, Shopkins by Moose Toys, DC Super Hero Girls, Pokémon, or Disney’s Elena of Avalor. The only one on the list would have been Trolls that I wouldn’t have be happy with if they won. Rookie of the Year was won by 3DoodlerStart Essentials Pen Set by WobbleWorks and I would agree with that.

Specialty Toy of the Year was won by LEGO Disney Castle by LEGO Systems Inc. and if you have ever seen this thing in person there can be no argument, this thing is awesome. Tech Toy of the Year is a tough one for me as I really don’t know anything about the winner, I could have seen Zoomer Chimp or Air Hogs Connect: Mission Drone winning though. Vehicle of the Year was won by Star Wars Air Hogs X-Wing vs. Death Star – Rebel Assault by SpinMaster Ltd. and that is a cool toy. Hot Wheels A.I. Intelligent Race System by Mattel, Inc. or Go! Go! Smart Wheels Treasure Mountain Train Adventure by Vtech would also have been good winner in my opinion.

So there you have it the TOTY winners and some of our opinion as we voted a few months ago.

Old School Toys for me, New Toys for the Kids. Love covering toys and still has some old school toys in boxes that the kids think are weird.
